Yes Lindsay. Our winery produces medal winning wines and would be an excellent field trip or occasional facility class venue to add real world interest to your certification classes.

Were you the people who came to Becker Vineyards in Stonewall Texas and shot the video of Becker Vineyards Port shots during December? If so, could you send me a copy? Who ever shot the video gave me a card and said to email this address. I am in the video and would love to see it.

Comment on Update #3: Politics of Wine – Appeal Filed – Ordinance in limbo – San Diego Wine Country – the Tiered Winery Ordinance of 2010 by Dennis Grimes

Yes it's a win-win as you point out. Sadly the opponents just don't want wineries in their vicinity even if the region land and parcels are zoned for agriculture. San Diego County wine country is covered by several Federally designated American Vinticultural Areas (AVAs) e.g. we're in the Ramona Valley AVA in this case.

Wine-grape growing is farming, making wine is inherently a agricultural activity like picking and selling apples or tomatoes at a roadside farm stand. The County complied with CEQA environmental studies when the ordinance was developed, unfortunately in this state, those with a perverse sense of humor - knowingly say "CEQA is used as a weapon of mass obstruction."

Let's hope and pray the Court ruling against the opponents prevails in the appeals process.

Thank you for the thoughtful comment!

Keep fighting the good fight! What are the motivating factors for the opposition? Seems like a win-win for everyone involved - consumer, boutique wineries, local economy... I'm confused why anyone would spend so much energy to oppose such a beneficial thing.

Thanks for this article! Luckily, I have a spare key like the TSA approved corkscrew you pictured above, and now that I know, it will be going in my carry-on. Cheers!

Mim: Amarone (or Amarone della Valpolicella) a rich Italian dry red wine is made from three grapes - mostly Corvina, with a good portion of Rondinella, and some Molinara!

Elanie - Appreciate the hope/wish.

Aside from the County Supervisors that "get it," the local governmental bureaucrats need some help in understanding the intent of the Tiered Winery Ordinance - to enable a process to allow the implementation and growth of a wine tourism industry in this County starting with the implementation/enabling of Boutique wineries.

We are blessed with a great wine-grape growing climate producing award-winning wines - we only need tasting rooms to share the high-quality product of our vineyards with wine lovers!
