White Hot Mulled Wine

by Julie Grimes on November 9, 2012

Christmas season is always associated with aromas.  If you think back to your childhood Christmases, it’s usually the smells you remember.

Hot Mulled Wine is tradition in public houses every Christmas season in nearly every European town.  They offer mulled wine as a warm and delicious antidote to warm a persons chill and heart.  Traditional Mulled Wine is Red, this version is made with Viognier Wine, which is white.

1 bottle of Eagles Nest Winery Viognier wine.  The one I use is 14.1% ALC.
3 cups Mango Juice
2 cups Apple, Orange or Pinapple Juice
6 whole cinnamon sticks
3 oranges, sliced half inch
1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
12 whole cloves
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp nutmeg
ground ginger
1 bay leave cut in half
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Directions:

  1. Place water and sugar into a large pot along with both juices.  Stir until sugar is dissolved.  Do NOT boil.
  2. Take the orange slices, and place the whole cloves into the rind.  Add oranges and lemon slices along with the other spices and wine into the pot.  Heat until warm.  Do NOT boil, as this will ruin the Mulled Wine.
  3. Pour the mulled wine into a crockpot on LOW heat and serve warm.
  4. When guests arrive, take the lid off the crockpot and let the holiday smells enter your home
